Inclusive Housing

New Mexico State University and Housing & Residential Life are committed to the success of all our residents. Our Inclusive Housing option allows students to reside in the same room and suite as individuals who may be of another gender or do not identify along the gender binary. Students must opt into the Inclusive Housing experience.

First-Year Students
Inclusive Housing, or Gender Inclusive Housing, includes housing for students who do not identify concretely along the gender binary or have special needs related to the gender of the unit for which they are assigned. Students may volunteer to be considered to live in Inclusive Housing or may request to be assigned outright into this unit type. Housing & Residential Life has designated a select number of rooms in each of the residence hall facilities, inclusive of Living Learning Communities, that will be utilized for Inclusive Housing. If you are interested in Inclusive housing, complete the first year student housing application and select Inclusive housing. If you are interested in living in inclusive housing, be sure to answer “yes” to the Inclusive Housing question.

How will a room selection and roommate matching be done?
Students who are interested in Inclusive housing will be matched with other students who are interested in Inclusive housing per the housing application. Housing & Residential Life will reach out to each individual by email or phone in order to place them in the appropriate community. If students have roommate preferences, they must mutually match and both agree to inclusive housing in order to be assigned in Inclusive Housing.

Upper Division, Transfers and Returning Students
