Complete the Application Process
To complete a housing application follow the steps below:
- Log in to your MyNMSU account with your NMSU username and password.
- Click on the Student tab. The Banner Self-Service panel appears in the middle of the screen.
- Select MyHousing.
- Once in the housing portal, you will see applications on the left side of your screen.
- Select 'Housing & Meal Plan Application,' then select the academic year you are apply for (i.e. Academic Year 2025-2026).
- You will review the agreemen, then acknowledge the agreement terms by entering your Aggie ID selecting 'I Agree - Click Here To Proceed'.
- Verify your information and fill out your Emergency Contact Information.
- You will then need to pay your application fees and damage deposit. You will be unable to complete your application until payment is submitted.
- After submitting your payment, you will choose your Meal Plan, then select your housing options, followed by your roommate request.
- You will verify that all information is correct and complete your application! You will be able to go back into your application and make changes.
Once you have made the payment, you will receive a receipt to your NMSU email account verifying your payment has been received!
*If the student is under 18 at the time of the application, they need to provide a parent or legal guardian's information. The parent or legal guardian will need to review the Housing and Meal Plan Agreement, and fill out the matching information in the portal separately.
Applications will not be completed until a parent verification form is completed for students under 18 years of age at the time of application.
Types of Applications
First-Year Housing and Dining Application
(Academic Year - Fall & Spring)
Students who are first-time, full-time undergraduate students admitted to the Las Cruces campus. If you completed college coursework concurrently during high school and entering NMSU for the first time you are should complete this application. The contract is for the academic year which is fall and spring. *If a student has already completed the housing application, the housing application takes priority over the housing exemption request.
First-Year Residency - Request for Exemption
(Academic Year - Fall & Spring)
Students who are first-time, full-time undergraduate students admitted to the Las Cruces campus and have rare circumstances may submit a request to be exempt from the residency requirement. *If a student has already completed the housing application, the housing application takes priority over the housing exemption request.
Waiver First-Year Housing and Dining application
(Academic Year – Fall & Spring)
Students who meet certain financial criteria may be eligible to fill out the Waiver application in which the housing deposit and application fee are billing directly to their student account at the time of application and payment up front is not required. Please note, students must meet certain financial requirements in order to be granted access to the application. If the student doesn’t meet the financial requirements, access to the waiver application will not be granted.
In order to qualify for the Waiver application, the student must first send a copy of their Financial Aid Award letter to housing@nmsu.edu.
The criteria is based off of the NMSU estimated cost of attendance. A minimum of $9,726 per semester in Financial Aid Awards, for the 2022-2023 academic year, must be awarded and accepted in order to qualify for the Waiver application. Work Study funds do not count towards the total amount of financial aid, only grants, loans and scholarships.
If approved, the student will then be granted access to the Waiver application through their MyHousing portal.

Upperclassmen Non-Traditional Application
(Academic Year - Fall & Spring)
Students who are transfers, current residents, exchange students should complete this application. The contract is for the academic year which is fall and spring.
Family Housing Application
(Academic Year - Fall & Spring)
Students who are married, married couples with children, single parents with dependent children, domestic partners, and domestic partner with child(ren) should complete this application.
